From Us To You – May 2026
Did you know that on May 15, 1776, the Continental Congress created what might be called the first National Day of Prayer?
It ordered Friday the 17th to be observed as a Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer… to humbly supplicate the mercy of Almighty God, that it would please Him to pardon all our manifold sins and transgressions…and finally establish the peace and freedom of America upon a solid and lasting foundation…
Since that time, at least 10 presidents over the years have called for specific days of prayer and fasting for our nation.
Did you know that in 1952, President Harry S Truman officially made the National Day of Prayer an annual occurrence?
Did you know that since 1952 every president, regardless of political party, has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation marking the occasion?
President Reagan officially made the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday in May in 1988, saying “Americans in every generation have turned to their Maker in prayer…We have acknowledged…our dependence on Almighty God.”
This year’s National Day of Prayer theme, “Glorify God Among the Nations—Seeking Him in All Generations,” taken from 1 Chronicles 16:24, reminds us that our prayers today are part of a 250-year legacy of seeking God in America.
As a station, we believe our mission is to be a Voice of Hope, and there is no greater hope than knowing we can “tell of His glory” and “wonderful deeds” to the next generation.
Praying with you,
Tim Madeira
