From Us To You

Early warning signs. How often do we see them and not pay attention? It may be something simple like “REDUCE SPEED AHEAD” or “HIDDEN DRIVEWAY.” In my case, I have been known to ignore them all together. I have driven past more than one “ROAD CLOSED” sign, only to find out the road really is closed!

We recently had a storm come through NEPA, that was precluded by a beautiful red sunrise. Someone used the old adage “red sky at night, sailors delight; red sky in morning, sailors take warning.” Did you know that phrase comes from the Bible? In Matthew 16 Jesus is talking to the disciples about the “warning signs” of the times. He says in verse 2, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’” Of course, he is talking to his disciples, many of them fisherman, using phrases they can relate to. He goes on to tell them explain to them, “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

I think most of us would agree that the signs of the time are indeed everywhere, but often like the disciples we don’t understand. Or like me with a ROAD CLOSED sign, we don’t pay attention to them! Certainly, the signs of the times show us that the Lord’s return is closer now than it has ever been.

Not only do we need to be paying attention, we need to redouble our efforts to share the hope of salvation to those around us, something we do every day here at WIVH. Join us in sharing that HOPE!
